ALCIDES BAIÃO MODESTY OF SEDUCTION

(Off) the veins run the Soul of good daring whites, of innocent Indian nudes, of slaves that were born to be Free …

Painting, sculpture, ceramics…Art!

Drawing is his Beginning, projected in the (deserving) relief giving form to the bodies as if, in a paradox of tenderness, it crushed them without damage…

Spicy and (suspended) colourful eroticism censured as it is by white eyes radiated by way of rose colour, on faces without courage or expression…

Curves and curves, sometimes in an uninterrupted and delayed line, a rigorous caress in due proportion, followed by the attentive and gluttonous look of a voyeur ever in action…

Bully. Perfectionist. Bloody warrior that came from afar (and who will go Beyond). Fruit of the South Atlantic. In love with Woman. So as not to lose sight of the North!

ALCIDES BAIÃO

The Modernity of Alcides Baião, comes from an interesting symbiosis of bodily forms that respect the canons of classical tradition, even though they exhibit a long development - reminding one of El Greco - and other forms that suggest filtered ambiences or "decors" of some Cartoon Strip practised by the European vanguard.

The theme proposed by A. Baião is that of the omnipresent woman - the woman in her hot, spontaneous sensuality, notwithstanding her manifestation as an ideal of purity. We are in the presence of a dual sensuality "versus" the modesty that sometimes evidences inquietude or disquietude, in an atmosphere of delirious trance. Without attenuating the dramatic effect of the compositions, and this inquietude or disquietude, the artist uses a palette of colours and a chromatic diversity that may be considered to have a tropical influence, given its richness of hues and contrasts of highly saturated living colours. This is not unconnected to the fact that he comes from the state of Bahia, in Brazil.

The living contrasts of light, accentuate the depth of female bodily forms, more or less realistic in their whole, but minimalist or reductive in detail. These being absent, given an artificial/trance like involvement, suggested by the spherical compositional elements, under the aegis of a surrealistic ambience that also has recourse to the "collage" of dispersed elements and of a diverse cultural influence - almost always mystical.
